Firmer Pressure for Muscles That Need Extra Attention
Deep tissue massage uses slow, firm pressure to target deeper muscle tissue and areas of persistent tension. It can be a good choice when you have areas of tightness you would like to focus on, and your therapist will adjust the depth so that the session stays comfortable for you.
What Is Deep Tissue Massage?
Deep tissue massage is a form of massage therapy that focuses on the deeper layers of muscle. Your registered massage therapist will use slow, deliberate strokes and firm pressure to focus on areas such as the neck, shoulders, back or hips.
“Firm” does not mean painful. You can ask for more or less pressure at any point, and your therapist will check in with you throughout the session. If you would prefer a lighter touch, our Massage Therapy sessions are a good alternative.
When Deep Tissue Massage May Suit You
Many people choose deep tissue massage when their muscles need more focused attention. It may suit you in situations like these:
- Your shoulders and upper back feel tight after long days at a desk or behind the wheel.
- You have a stubborn tight spot that lighter pressure does not seem to reach.
- You are active and would like focused care for muscles that feel worked or tired.
- Your work involves prolonged standing or repetitive movements.
- You prefer firmer pressure during massage treatments.
- You would like a session that concentrates on a few areas rather than the whole body.
Your therapist will discuss your preferences and adjust the pressure throughout your session to help you remain comfortable.
How We Help
Your session begins with a short conversation about the areas you would like to focus on and the amount of pressure you prefer. From there, your therapist will work with slow, deliberate strokes and adjust as you give feedback.
Our clinic has two registered massage therapists. Paidamoyo Chinzvende, RMT, is the owner, and Hazel Opena, RMT, is the newest therapist and is available evenings and weekends.
Deep Tissue Massage is available in 60, 75 and 90 minute sessions, priced at $150, $175 and $205. If you are not sure which style to choose, you can read about our general Massage Therapy sessions or get in touch with your questions.

Is This You?
You do not need an injury or a specific problem to book a deep tissue session, and clients choose it for many different reasons.
- You feel tightness in your neck, shoulders or back that you would like to focus on.
- You are looking for firmer pressure than a standard relaxation massage offers.
- You have been sitting, driving or lifting more than usual and your body feels it.
- You have enjoyed a lighter massage before and are curious about trying more depth.
- You would like to talk with a therapist about which pressure and focus areas are best for you.
Sore Spot Massage Therapy is currently accepting new clients, and Hazel Opena, RMT, is available evenings and weekends if that suits your schedule better.
What to Expect
A deep tissue session is focused and unhurried, and you stay in charge of the pressure. You can expect the following:
Your first visit begins with a conversation. Your therapist will ask where you feel tension and what pressure you prefer, then adjust as the session goes on.
You can speak up at any time. Deep tissue work should stay within what feels comfortable for you, so please tell your therapist if you would like more or less pressure.
You choose the session length. Deep Tissue Massage is available in 60 minutes for $150, 75 minutes for $175 and 90 minutes for $205.
Booking and cancellations are simple. You can book online through Jane App, and we ask for 24 hours notice if you need to cancel or reschedule. Late cancellations are charged 50% and no-shows are charged 100%. Gift cards are also available.
